AbscondWithAPie:
I think more of our comics should have layouts like this.
Altermentality:
Such a spoiled child.
Sorry the updates have been so shaky lately. Times are busy for me and Victor, and honestly I have life responsibilities that I’m wise enough to place before the comic right now, even if they aren’t very fun and my heart would rather be drawing Skärva and friends (or “friends” because this is Skärva). But I will try to keep you entertained as best I can. So here’s an idea I’ve had in my head for a long time!
Youch. You know I get the feeling that if sharkboy did actually die he’d have to spend his entire un-life making it up to her.
Yeah. She would never forgive him for his stubbornness and bad decision-making. Having him around as a ghost (provided the curse wouldn’t break if the last Skärva died) would be better than nothing, but it just isn’t the same. You can’t hug a ghost, not really.
yea. normal and fighting types caant atleast.
is derk normal/fighting? or normal/dark?
(i assume ‘normal’ is the opposite type of ‘dark’)
I would actually say Fighting is the closest analogy Pokémon has to light magic, since it’s effective against dark.
And Lorelei is normal and Derk is fighting.
paper cuts are normal type attacks.
with high critical-hit ratio
20% chance to raise attack
skaervy needs a hyper potion right about now
Pff, you think? He needs a regular potion, if anything. Or like, a berry. Maybe one round of Leftovers. He’s just a baby.
A Lorelei Potion!

Question that’s semi-unrelated to this particular strip: is Skarva actually evil? I mean, I understand that he does things that don’t exactly amount to good, but his plans never involve killing anyone, (or even hurting them the least bit – at least not physically) – all his plans involve are either outsmarting his enemies or showing that he’s more powerful, (both of which sadly haven’t happened yet…). He’s also sometimes a bit arrogant, especially towards Lorelei, but again, that’s not exactly evil…just not good.
Looks like you answered your own question. You need look no farther than our world to see that people are quick to label others or their activities as “evil” when really, they’re not doing anyone any harm. Conversely, things that are supposedly backed by deities can be rather questionable.
Granted, Skärva’s a jerk and his ambitions are far from selfless, but true cruelty is not in his nature.
Of course, like I said, you answered your own question – people in our world have many different standards of what is evil. In a world like Idenau, of course the same thing is true, but with gods who interfere directly and give obvious signs of their approval and displeasure, evil is a little more black and white, defined as whatever goes against their wishes. By fighting against the gods’ chosen hero and the established order of the kingdom, not to mention still bearing the mark of his great-grandfather’s sin, Skärva is evil by Idenian standards, at least theologically.
Yes…I suppose that makes sense. Thanks for explaining!
Are Lorelei’s fears, (such as the ones presented here), a result of something that happened before meeting Skarva, or has she really been that traumatized by what we’ve seen so far? I’m assuming the former, but I could definitely see how all this might have an effect on a little girl’s mind, too.
You know I can’t talk about Lorelei’s past! But anyway, she doesn’t remember anything from it, so for all intents and purposes life began for her just before she met Skaerva and Derk. And so one of her earliest memories is her (however reluctant) caretaker being beaten into a pathetic pulp. It had all been mostly fun and excitement and adventure up until that point- she had no problem believing that Skaerva would win against this hero because she liked the villain and trusted him, so why not – and then it all fell apart in a most unpleasant manner. You can imagine how horrifying it was, and she’s seen it several times since. Not to mention that she feels responsible for his safety… of course there are other ways he could recover, but ever since that first time she has this conviction that he’ll die without her. (And after all, Blank seems to get a little less merciful each time…) Maybe Derk was right in the beginning, that she shouldn’t have watched the Boss’s downfall… then again, it’s good she knows what she’s gotten into. Skaerva’s never been one to coddle her, after all.
And that’s not 100% the whole story about the nightmares, but I really can’t say anything more!
It could have been worse!
Now go back to drawing, Lorelei.
At first I didn’t read it with the comma and I was like “Haven’t I just done enough?!”
Yes, GO DRAW LORELEI FOREVER.
(Nah, you need your rest draw her only when you have to and want to.)
While this page is one that really stands out in my memory as amazing character development, this comment stack is the thing that made me laugh out loud.
I like the layout

Also, Lorelei is just plain awesome. Just like, totally awesome. Her awesomeness escapes my ability to portray the sheer awesomeness of her awesome awesomeness.
And I don’t think anyone minds the bumpy roller coaster of your updates. We understand
I enjoyed making it, certainly. I think I’ll make more special blue filler comics in the future. ^_^
I know. Because you guys are great and make my life much better. Hopefully I will have some good news to report soon.
Blue and also red.
*You. YOU.
As in the comic. Not in the creepy way.
As in you make the comic.
Not… yeah.
You should’ve had Lorelei drawing this filler with her drawing the filler ect.
She’s a healer, not a prophet!
Fillerception…
Hey guys, if you’re reading this…
I have two job interviews today so I’m going to try and get to sleep. Not only that, but I’m kind of worried and find myself really unable to draw. I’m sorry to let you down. Things have been pretty rough lately.
Don’t worry about us! Just do your best! :3
No problemo!
You deserve rest for drawing such a cute Lorelei.
I’m really sorry to read that things are going so poorly – whatever your troubles, I do hope that they abate and conclude soon. :/
Hmm… Have you considered calling for guest pages, perhaps? That might allow you a longer rest, hopefully with less guilt or worry on your part. I believe that the artist behind Earthsong just did something similar as a result (I think it was) of a move.
N-no, I don’t have any pre-existing ideas that I’m itching to draw! Definitely not! W-why would you think that! *ahem* *whistles in (poorly-acted) innocence; tries to walk nonchalantly away, realises that he has nowhere to go (especially as this is presumably a cyberspacial void), and so ends up walking in a circle*
Not SO poorly… just stressful. Trying to find a job when I don’t really know which of my interests I want to intensively pursue, in an economy that isn’t exactly throwing opportunities at young people. I think I found something good today, that will at least help tide me over and continue to pay the rent while I keep searching. In the meantime, exhaustion and worry don’t make for a good mix when it comes to drawing.
Hmm… how fast could you make one? >____> Seriously, if you made a whole comic, I would put it up here.
Aw, well, I do hope that you have found something good, that it goes well, and that you manage to find something even better in the near future – and especially that you find a way to make a living exercising your passions.
I can, I believe, understand exhaustion and worry having a negative effect on artistic work – I do hope that you find relief soon. :/
As to the comic, I’m not sure. I’ve started working on it, but I don’t know how long it’s going to take, or, given my current state and lack of drawing tablet (my tablet doesn’t seem to get along with Ubuntu Linux :/ ), how well it’s going to turn out, but I intend to give it a shot and send it to you once it’s done. If it’s not in time to give you a break sooner it may yet be held in reserve to do so later. ^_^
Update on the comic: It’s looking like tomorrow (Friday) evening at the -earliest-, more likely Saturday, I fear – I am sorry. :/
Whoa whoa, don’t worry about it! It’s super nice that you’re doing this at all!
Y’know what I wanna know? What does Skarva sound like?
My, I guess, “headcanon” voice for him sounds like Zim for some reason.
And another headcanon is that Lorelei draws pictures of herself, Skarva and Derk together in a sort of happy family kind of thing. Skarva puts them on the fridge when no one is looking. Slice does this too, but with Ecta, Floyd, Davis, and himself instead.
Don’t forget Gilly (if I recall her name correctly) – if the pictures are drawn by Slice, it seems to me that there’s a fair chance that she features to some degree.
You’re the second person who thinks Skärva sounds like Zim! Did you reach that conclusion independently? XD I really do not imagine him sounding like that at all though, it’s way too high pitched, young even. (Skärva’s almost 30. Or so.) In my mind Skärva has a very growly snarly voice… but then again I’m really bad at mentally creating voices for characters, so, I don’t even have an exact idea and I won’t tell you what to think. Whatever floats your boat XD
Based on your Tera, though, I think you could voice Lorelei!
Oh I forgot to mention I have the exact same headcanons. Yes, some of my canons have to be headcanons because Victor thinks I am silly. XD
And then Skärva blames Derk when the picture shows up on the fridge.
I am now imagining both of you with large cannons sticking out of your heads, giant-robot style.
I was thinking of cannons that shoot heads, but this works too.
Clearly what we have here are head-mounted giant-robot style cannons that shoot heads (presumably the heads of conquered giant robots).
Aaaaawww… ^_^
I don’t know whether it’s just my current (rather tired ^^; ) state or otherwise, but it occurs to me now that I rather like the effect that you achieve in drawing hair: in short, I feel that it tends to come out rather well. ^_^
Additionally, your expressions continue to impress. ^_^
Finally (on the art side, at least), I just went back to the first page, and I do think that you really have quite visibly improved since then. ^_^
Aww, Thaumy. *hug* Thanks. Yeah, I think the hair came out especially nice on this page, probably because of the brush I was using
….You ended every single one of your lines with a ^_^. I’m a little afraid.
And I’ve been (more than) a little tired! …This may have had something to do with it. ^^;
it’s kind of like when baby skins his knee and screams, and mummy, assuming he’s run afoul of a bear, comes running, sees that it’s nothing, and the kisses it better.
loreylay reminds me of ms golden week from one piece
and dont worry! u have legitimate reasons to not post ur comics
IDEA TIIIIIIIME
*Theme music*
What if you how everyone draw one panel of a comic, and send them to you and you can piece them all together! Yaaaaaay! That way we still get going onn the storyline but all you have to do is drag some thing in the right places. Eh?
Or I could draw a comic. I wonder how Skarva wouod look with short legs and a big head? Hehe.
That would be awesome, but I’d have to organize it and people would have to get drawing obligations done on time, which I know from experience is easier said than done. Maybe I could plan that out for a special comic sometime in the future, but it would be hard if we wanted to fit it into the normal plot.
