Seriously what is this loser wearing omg
These next pages get to mirror the first pages of this arc! The ones where I was really proud of the coloring! So I’m happy
I have a special treat for you all. Recently I commissioned a friend of mine who is a very talented young composer to do some music for the comic. I let him choose from various ideas, but since we both love pirate stuff we agreed on some themes for the pirate arc: what might serve as background music in both the town and the sunken isle. Click through and enjoy!! (And beware of “The DK Rap Polka Cover” autoplaying afterwards. I mean, you should totally listen to it, but it can be a bit surprising XD)
Chanteytown
Silverskull’s Keep
PS: Feel free to download them! And like game background music, they are designed to loop smoothly!
The coloring here is so nice…it really portrays the lighting in the room well. It just FEELS good.
I was happily listening to Chanteytown when the polka came on and I lost it. It’s amazing. Kudos to Mr. Ape!
I support that little Lurkin who got the crown. He deserves it.
Does Blank even bother running around looking for keys, or does he just kick the door in?
Actually, I find green rather suits Blank. The crown’s a bit too much, though.
Also, very nice work with the colors.
Yeah, I was supposed to make him look super dorky, but… I actually kind of like this on him The crown is totally actually dorky, though. But I love it.
Thank you!
At least the crown’s more useful than an umpteenth heart piece.
Forth! Again… also, what is even going on here?
Looks perfectly normal to me ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Oh my gosh what IS Blank wearing?
And like Lin said, the coloring is very lovely in this page!
I really like the lighting of the room, both in texture and colour! ^_^
I’ll admit that I think that it took me a moment to spot that one of the reflected “magic missiles” had hit its caster. I wonder whether it might not be worth giving the missiles a bit more outline, and removing the outlines of (and perhaps reducing slightly) the action-lines; the latter do seem perhaps a bit heavy to my eye.
The funny thing is that I don’t really fault Blank’s outfit–even the sparkly version that I saw on Twitter: if he’s comfortable in it (and he seems to be), then I have no argument with it. *shrugs*
The heavy outlined action lines are something I’ve been doing for a while now.. not sure I want to change them, especially as they’re pretty standardized throughout the arc. I think a lot of the problem is down to how I drew it, since the caster is in a similar position to when she was casting. Perhaps there’s something I can do to clear it up when I revise this arc for print.
And indeed, we shouldn’t judge. I bet he feels rather cool in it too. But you may be laughing in a few pages…
As to the action lines, fair enough–it is perhaps a rather large change to make partway through an arc. ^^;
It might be worth revisiting them once the arc is done, however. They are quite distinctive and pleasing to the eye, but I do wonder whether they don’t draw a bit too much attention to themselves, and thus away from the scene itself. That said, I’m not enormously confident that they’re problematic–I do recommend getting other opinions than mine on this!
I don’t think that the caster’s pose is a problem, if that’s what you mean–it seems clear enough to me that something is happening to her. I think that it’s just that the missile is a little easy to miss, especially under the action lines.
Hmm… One thing that I notice now is that the missile’s trail is of the lighter of the spell’s two colours–perhaps the darker (as used in the panel in which it’s cast) might stand out a bit better against the light floor, and draw more attention to both the missile itself and its direction of motion?
As to Blank, we’ll see in a few pages, I suppose!
He must be wearing the reward for collecting literally everything!
The gods do so love collections…
That or the dungeon items in this particular game had an interesting theme.
Idenau IV: The King of Blades?
“Collect 5000 amulets to get a crown”
And you said it was useless, Skarvs!
Sheesh, Skaerva has an awesome Havokfest costume if the cape can deflect magic.
