This reminds me of another fight scene. Well, I think I’ve gotten a little better since then.

I just realized there are multiple Pokemon jokes just waiting to be used for this page, since I’m too tired to type anymore, I’ll let someone else do them.
Lorelei used TACKLE. It’s not very effective…
Cyril tried to uses STRUGGLE, but he hurt himself in his confusion!
Skærva used DARK PULSE on enemy PIRATE. Enemy PIRATE flinched!
Dirk uses SOLAR BEAM on EVERYTHING. It’s super effective!

Which… is perfectly appropriate in this situation.
But how is Derk supposed to take in sunlight in here? Too bad light magic doesn’t have a better correlate in the Pokemon world. There’s been speculation that a Light type might be introduced, based merely on people trying to figure out the new Eeveelution.

he needs to play his accordion so he can cast inspire courage. Well maybe he can just stand there and strike menacing poses.
I’m not sure either of those things would have the desired effect

Hah. Nah, the compass is just a guide, the world will get along fine without it. Skärva will be pretty mad though!
I see what you’re getting at, but I don’t think Cyril would make a very seductive woman. (Or “saucy wench,” I think the term was.) But you never know…

Oh crud, is Derk Hyper-Beaming the pirate Lorelei is clinging to? Good thing she has healing magic. Unless she can only use it on others? I hope suddenly sad doesn’t happen.
Panel four, Lorelei’s game-face is amazing.
I wonder, if Light Magic is stronger than Dark in general, would Derk be able to neutralize Skærva, beat him, or be completely outclassed by him?
Obviously having a little girl fight for you isn’t going to end up being bad press. Best idea Skærva.
OH I MISSED ONE. Lord Tiberius Skärva the Fourth uses SCARY FACE. Cyril can no longer flee!

They’re working together! She’s holding the pirate in place so Derk won’t miss. Don’t worry, he’s aiming high enough to miss Lorelei though! Also… I think healers can heal themselves, minor wounds, but if they get injured badly enough it would compromise their ability to use magic…
Well, Derk is certainly formidable, but Skärva is far more powerful yet… right? He says so, anyway. I wonder what would happen if they ever got in a fight… some crazy stuff would have to go down, for it to come to that! You can speculate.
He could argue that he didn’t order her to fight. He merely said “feel free.” And I think he was probably talking to Cyril, but Lorelei ended up being more useful anyway. Silly Skärva, bards and healers are SUPPOSED to stay in the back. He may know a lot about dungeons, but not so much about questing.

What is up with Skärva’s face in panel three? All not being open when he is talking.

It could be open… oh! You’re not seeing him having some pac-man beakmouth, are you? The top thing you see there is his ear. The bottom is his face.
I noticed that sometimes when drawing him from the back, I didn’t draw his ears, although by all means you should be able to see them from any angle. So I’m doing better!
It is his ear? That makes SO MUCH more sense! I just saw it in a different way I guess, as in a pacmanbeakmouth. I can see clearly now.
Oh gosh. I went back and looked, and couldn’t help myself laughing. Since when did Skarva become a strange birdman? So wrong…

That would be terrifying if she was actually crushing the poor thing’s bones. She heals, not hurts. But she does provide an effective impediment!

Well, they have rather large tail-holes built in, so… it would be a bit strange if you really wanted one.
