I DON’T KNOW- I thought that since Veronika’s best friend is a bird, she probably hates cats, and I was trying to make this room as repulsive to her as possible. It’s also inspired by the cat paintings from Fallout 4… you can construct MANY cat paintings.
I’m still loving the interactions between these two.
Otherwise, that first panel is very pretty! I love those twilight purples and they way that they’ve soaked into the castle, especially against the soft greens of the landscape. ^_^
Willing to bet that cat was a dungeon boss at some point.
Ever play Dungeons & Dragons? There’s a monster that is literally something cute sitting atop a stump (the cute thing is part of the monster, it’s a lure), and the stump is the actual creature. It’s considered a joke monster, but clever DMs can end up getting some beautifully creepy encounters with it!
Y’know, I was reading some of the older content again and a strange question comes to mind (unrelated to the current comic, I know, but it’s kinda burning in the back of my head now!).
Ghosts have a somewhat malleable form, so they can kinda somewhat change their shape to whatever they wanna look like, yes?
I notice ghosts like Ecta and especially the majority of ghosts in the Haunted Forest, all have heads shaped like Skarva, instead of ordinary people.
Did they change the shape of their heads as some way to show allegiance to the Skarva family or… what? Why do they look like that?
Ghosts can possess things, but they can’t change their appearance at will. They possess things by filling the physical space of the object with their spirit, just as they used to do with their bodies (and they don’t fit perfectly, which is why you can see a bit of a glow around any possessed object, because they’re “sticking out” in a sense). But they can’t change their appearance just by wishing it. Ghosts look like they used to when they were alive, including being colorful and opaque, except over time they “decay” into becoming more and more blobby and transparent and Ecta-like at a rate related to how much impact they had on other people while alive. Most of the assorted ghosts you see have stabilized, so they’re not going to fade anymore.
They have weird-looking squishy faces because that’s just how I designed them to make the ghosts in our story unique visually. My rationale is that as their facial features blend together, their nose and mouth form into a snouty thing.
Actually, I sort of think that’s why the love potion that our favorite sharky villain attempted to use on her – the one that was alluded to in a Noodle Incident during that arc – “didn’t work”.
It “didn’t work” because she’s already fond of him, so she continued to act the same.
is it weird I ship the princess with scarva? I mean maybe I am hoping she falls under that whole kidnap syndrome whatsit thing, but at the same time… she is one of the few people to ever see another side of scarva. I mean look at it, yes he is rude and mean, but he saved an entire castle of exminions at the cost of his own magic, and he constantly has a room for her ready and in pristine condition, yes it’s not up to her choice of decoration, but at the same time, he wanted her to take credit for the saving of the minions. he believe he HAS to be a villain. he HAS to become greater than the hero. he may not think he has any other choice considering the curse.
scarva is nice sometimes. but he’s not going to let anyone think he is a pushover. especially with how often they ridicule him in the paper.
I hope scarva has a very happy ending. not simply some sort of “this is my fate” like his father gave into. I hope scarva’s adventures net him many future allies, and he finds that he is in fact loved by many, and that, when the curse is broke… he finds happiness outside of being a villain. maybe he can be a great and powerful sorcerer for the kingdom. and… considering how blank is so mean to him… maybe gaining the love and reciprocating it from and too the princess could not only help his ego revive, but also help him to turn over a new leaf. that would give me the warm fuzzies you know? but I can have my head canon all I want.
Courtney. What is that cat picture? Whose cat is that? Where did it come from? It’s seriously disturbing me. Such a cat exists in this world…
AGAIN! Beautiful coloring. There are so many pinks here…

It reminds me of Professor Umbrage’s cat pictures.
That cat is my patronus.
If someone doesn’t make that…thing…their icon on here I WILL.
Kitty! Whose a pretty kitty!
Ah, I mean, page! Yes, page! This is one!
(… Pretty kitty! :D)
*ahem*

Thanks! I’m super in love with the first panel too. Anytime I get to draw a sunset, I’m happy.

Also, this is my first time commenting! Go, me!
Victor and I have had minimal chances to play D&D, unfortunately! I’ll beware of a cat on a stump if we ever do again, though…
Hi! Welcome!
I’m interested in hearing everyone’s headcanons about this cat now.

I’m always happy to answer tangential questions!

That explains the lack of casually-dressed princesses in other comics. I mentioned I love her casual look.
Is it weird I think they’d be a good couple? D:
They could hate Blank together forever lmao

Oh my gosh I love this page so much. It’s nice to see Skärva be a big fat jerk and not be pushed around.
