So then the Third threw the book out a window

Hey everyone, be sure to check the blog on the main page today. We’re trying to raise some money so I can get the kind of tablet that professionals use! It’s something I’ve been dreaming about for years, but I’ve never really had that kind of money to spend, especially on something unnecessary… but luckily, just as the comic and its level of professionalism and quality are becoming ever more important to us, we discovered a more affordable alternative. Consider donating; I’d love to fit your cameo into the comic once we get out of the castle again!
Also, a trick for speech bubbles just dawned on me today, which should not only make things easier but allow for me to do some fun stuff!
But Skärva 3, just because Skärva 2 never tried it, if Skärva 4 wants to give it a go and try to talk to the gods/break the curse, this could be your big chance! Maybe the curse will finally be lifted!
… That’s a lot of Skärva.
(Captcha: that rkeyace. Is rkeyace a racial slur?! HOW DARE YOU CAPTCHA.)
It’s a slur for shark people. It’s ancient Idenian. Captcha just thinks the Third is being kind of a jerk.
so captcha is influencing actual canon now? AND YOU SAID IT WASN’T LORD INGLIP
Yay back to the Skaervas!
The Skearva legacy seems to be comprised of sons going, “UGH my dad, EYEROLL!” I guess it’s understandable. A genetic curse would put a lot of strain on the generations, especially since it’s still fairly new and each generation has its own ideas for how to deal with it
As usual, love the expressions. Did a great job with the background; it’s very unobtrusive and sets the mood nicely. I love how everything still looks dusty and dirty. And that last panel is adorable with the three in the back.
Wow. Poor Second. Grow a backbone. Oh wait….sorry.
Haha, that’s pretty true. Except for poor the Second, who was never quite so defiant with HIS father. But few people would dare to be, let alone our timid Two…
Indeed, and it’s a regular garden of eyebrow varieties there…
Gods forbid he burn the thing…?
Oh, he isn’t that cruel! The book is the Second’s baby, and he’s already crazy enough… can you imagine? I think the Second would break down to see any book burned, let alone that one…
I just thought of something, will we ever meet Skarva’s mother and/or Grandmother?
Yes and probably not, maybe in “person” and maybe in flashbacks (but I’m not telling you what goes with who!)
I…think the Second is copping a bit too much flack. Is it his fault he died before he could test the theory? If anything, I think it’s the Third who’s being a tosser about this. Too dangerous to put the theories to the test? Did he never consider that maybe, just maybe, his own son might not be as content to spend life as a sharkman than he was? I mean, really, the Third’s being really arrogant and selfish about this. All this “I know better blah blah blah”. Too dangerous? How? You’re already a sharkman who will turn into a ghost upon dying!
…well. That escalated quickly.
It’s definitely the Third who’s being a … tosser. (Sorry, we don’t have that word here. But I guess he really WOULD be a tosser if he threw the book out a window.) But in his defense, he just really really loves his son. Always has. And he wants the Fourth not to suffer from his own father’s obsession with something that may just be a bunch of legends, and then to suffer either crippling disappointment or – perhaps worse if it IS true, who knows what the gods might do?
For some reason I’ve suddenly got this bad feeling that the comic will end with the Fourth lifting the curse, only to die. Since the curse is gone he wouldn’t stay as a ghost…
Well, the end of the comic is a long way away! I hope you’re still with us to find out if he can survive everything the gods will throw at him!
Usual thing about living forever. Better to do it and watch everything go to pieces around you, or die and move on? Somehow I think our boy would prefer the latter. The way he always challenges Blank, and now the Gods, it’s like he has a death wish.
Somehow I knew as soon as Skarva was actually able to read the book before someone swiped it or something else that sent the book incognito was able to happen, there would be something wrong with it.
Also, the Third looks awesome! … but what he said makes me sad.
What, an entire semester’s worth of manor crawling wasn’t enough?
yeah sorry skervie, maybe next time. perhaps the fi5th will handle this task. considering he had ancestors such as 3rd, and 2nd, does that mean skervie will continue hjs legacy, and eventually come across a wife?????????????????????????????????????
msiian COLCOCK
Hey, the Fourth still has plenty of time. As for the future generations of the Skurvy family, only time will tell!
Keep your colcock to yourself, Captcha!
idk whos crazier, the NUTS or the frujts
howeori italian
That frujts thing kills me every time. XD
does three have a light brown rage? do they all have different rage colors?
productive foemin
I actually put some thought into that, so I’m glad you asked XD I considered giving him the orange fury, but the Third is much more controlled than his son, as a product of both age and his nature, so I subdued it into a copper. It’s not even a rage so much as just sternness and impatience. Otherwise, I’d venture to say orange rage runs in the family.
Hrm…The Second would probably be a yellow (more loopy and not really angry and/or aggressive) and the First would *probably* be pure red (as I would assume from the hints dropped that he’s…not very nice. To say the least.) I would guess. (Captcha=eceousx includes. )
That makes sense! I like it! Of course, the Second IS capable of his father’s rage, although it doesn’t last very long and is less actively malicious and more of a crazed reflex… it’s quite enough for Derk to be afraid of the poor thing, though.
. . . The First is getting scarier and scarier . . .
Lol my sis and I have a theory that he not only didn’t mind the curse, but actively enjoyed it. If not tried to get it on purpose. Someone that nasty might like having sharp teeth and a scarier presence.
Yeah, I should stop dropping hints about the First; he’ll come out of the shadows in his own time. That, and if you keep talking about him, he might show up and getcha. Like Candle Jack. I wonder if anyone
I really hope that it isn’t lik
Falx, you know that for that to work, you have to actually have Candle Jack’s name in the sent
Wow…I’m kinda speechless here. The last panel makes me sad…just the three of them in the background like that…regardless, nicely done as always!
On another note; I’d LOVE to try and donate, if I can. ^^; I’ll see what I can do!
Thank you very much!
Yeah, I’m really happy with how that panel turned out. But I tend to be happy with comics that feature multiple Skärvas because their similarities in form encourage me to do some fun stuff. It’s like they mirror each other, but not quite.
Aw, it occurs to me that both prior generations seem to have The Fourth’s well-being in mind, despite his impatience and ill-temper. :/
All in all, a good page! Your expressions continue to be very good, and, as another commenter said, I believe, the backgrounds are lovely indeed. ^_^
(And: The dawn of orange fury!
Okay, not the true dawn, given your response to other commenters, but I came to comment too late and wanted to use that line anyway. :P)
They do. He’s surrounded by people who care about him and I think he kind of takes it for granted, being a lord and all, or doesn’t realize the worth of it.
Thanks!
That is one heckuva robe.
Indeed. He’s probably trying to distract people from his tribrow.
I like the anger differences in the various Skaervas. With the varying shades of “Orange Fury”, lol.
On that aspect, I LOVE all the different takes to the curse the different Skaervas have. Really helps to differentiate their personalities.
I wonder when he had the book sent away. Was it back before Skaerva IV showed interest in breaking the curse? Or was it BECAUSE he started showing interest?
Captcha says “because aVail”. Because aVail what??
Agreeing with you on EVERYTHING.
And I’m also curious about the whole “book being sent away”…strange how one little line like that has such an impact on how you percieve everything.
…because a vail? o-o YOURE NOT HELPING, CAPTCHA!
Find out next time on The Fourth!
D-do the Skarvas actually -care- about each other!? For some weird reason I get the impression that these guys all sitting at the dining table eating and.. pretending to be eating would lead to GEMS of dialogue. So much passive aggression and refinement…
Speaking of… where’s the First? This may have been mentioned before, hrm…
OH BOY it was mentioned in other comments on the -very same page-. Go ahead, whap me with the newspaper of didn’t-look-before-mentioning shame…
*whap*
LOL
Oh, they love each other, they just have their own ways of expressing it… or suppressing it.
Suppressing their expressing? How depressing.
I hope my illness is regressing, for it is quite distressing
Aw… Feel better, okay? 8( *pat*
does the 2nd not have four eye-brows or are the main ones so fluffy they cover the secondary ones?
He has two… look at how many the third has, look carefully… are things starting to make sense?
That can only mean that the four eyebrows comes from Grandma’s side of the family!
Oh no wait. I see now…
which means the first one has a unibrow!
Well done. ^_^
in that case i hope the curse is lifted before Skarva the seventh is born
SO MANY SKARVAS
<3
