This is Dad. Dad is Sad
on March 8, 2016 at 4:36 pmChapter: Chapter Zero
Characters: Lord Tiberius Skärva the Fourth
Courtney
(They totally do have this conversation again though)
You’re getting this page early because I finished it early (imagine that??), and because I like it so very much. Although it broke my heart.
Oh. Oh, I’m sad now…
You weren’t kidding about this page…
Dad needs a hug.
Daaaaaaaaaaang!
Man, Skarva’s a jerk. Blank better beat him up!
He’s a little more Ganondorf, his dad’s a little more Bowser (excluding Paper Jam. YEESH).
What was wrong with Paper Jam? No, honestly, I haven’t played it yet. I heard it was ok. I mean, better than Sticker Star, where Bowser did not talk AT ALL.
Nothing was wrong with it, I meant that Bowser was a lot more serious than a lot of recent Mario games. Like, if his usual shtick is lots of bluster and general grumpyness, he’s a lot more… focused with his anger. Less flamethrower, more orbital laser strike, with regards to his plans for destruction.
Huh, even Paper Bowser? Do the paper characters talk in that game? Paper Bowser is generally a doofus, but M&L Bowser can be kind of scary. He was a traitorous asshole in Dream Team for sure.
Yep, even Paper Bowser (who is a lot more similar to regular bowser than some of the games make him appear)! All the characters, paper and otherwise, talk (except for luigi and the two marios).
I’m interested in what would cause the Third to exhibit his Skärva rage. We know the Second’s trigger, and the First’s is probably literally anything, but the Third hasn’t really gotten ‘angry’ that I can remember.
Even more than his eyebrows, Skärva’s irises tell exactly what he’s feeling.
The example of focus items was that of a sword for those with a high mana pool that would supplement their spirit, and a wand that did the reverse. Would the Third’s staff be an exceptionally large wand?
Oh, and the Third says ‘SLAM’ all the time.
Well, HE didn’t say it…
SLAM, BAM, THANK YOU MA’AM
GET ON THE FLOOR AND JAM
“Would the Third’s staff be an exceptionally large wand?” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Anyway, you’re an astute one, and the answer is: yes. It’s not just a walking stick, it’s a figurative crutch. He was magically talented, but not near as much as his son, or even his father. The wand helps him focus his magic and use more of it.
As for what would cause him to rage… well, like any person, I’m sure there are some things which would set him off, but he’s not as quick on the trigger as the Second or the Fourth. You’ll find that the First was similar… much more calm and calculating… very businesslike. Although in a much scarier way. I love the way the members of our lordly family are alike each other, and yet different. So if the First is evil + composure, the Second is affability/harmlessness + instability, the Third is affability + composure, and the Fourth is… well, you decide.
all I can say is, that was harsh.
4: YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND ME, DAD! (Slams door)
Poor Third looks so saaaaaaad. D:
(I also think 3rd is still alive here and that he could die sometime soon. And even if he does come back as a ghost that’d still be sad.)
Nah, he’s dead! Although… pretty freshly so. You can tell by the way he’s colored – no skin pinkness! And he doesn’t have light reflecting off his brooch and staff.
And because I always forget to say everything in one comment, here something I noticed.
The Thirds font is doing something weird. I notice that some of the letters, like ‘g’ and ‘y’ are getting cut off at the bottom.
Yeah, it’s always been like that, but no one complained until now (Victor did too ) I’ll see what I can do. Probably going to have to choose a new font. If it was JUST Victor, I’d tell him to deal with it
Really digging the colors on this one.
Thanks! Necessity is the mother of invention. These purple walls were boring the crap out of me. ^_^;
Happy birthday!
Oooh, wizardry!
Considering The Third’s emphasis on commerce and the like, I’d theorize his specialty were Transformative spells, making golems and animated weaponry which couldn’t be hurt and using his minions to gather materials for them in a career-like environment.
The Fourth is an Evocation specialist, I think. A few of his father’s transformation spells, but a lot more blasts of dark-tainted energy. Fitting that his own minions are made to fight the Hero themselves. Evokers are very direct!
Poor third. I wonder, was the third ever obsessed with being “evil” like Skarva, or was he business oriented from the beginning?
He’s always pretty much been this guy. It’s not like rebelliousness or anger never occurred to him, especially when he was younger, but overall he’s always been straightforwardly friendly and altruistic.
Honestly, I’d be mad too if someone told me to just roll over and lose. Don’t give up Skärva! (Maybe go a bit easier on him next time, though.)
Oh yeah, happy birthday, Courtney!
Oh hey, a (belated?) happy birthday, Courtney! I hope that it is (or has been, as appropriate) a wonderful one, and the start of a very good year ahead! ^_^
As to the page, aaw, ouch. I really feel for the Third here; I imagine that such a rebuff and disparagement from one’s own son hurts quite a bit. :/
(Belated) happy birthday Courtney!
Also, I saw what you meant when you said last page that this one would be upsetting… poor Third.
That makes me wonder, we know that the Fourth and Third had their own heroes, but what about the First and Second? They seemed more interested in freelance villainy and books, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t fight…
I don’t want to say too much, but things were different for them.
Awwh, that last picture. Baby Skarva is so cute! Will we ever see Skarvas’ mother? :O
Yep!
