Colors soon! Man, we’re making up for our little hiatus with all of these 10-panel comics, aren’t we?
I wish I could say everyone stopped being mean to Ecta after this, but they didn’t.
I love the cameos in the third panel. >V>(\
…but I already miss Clarence.
What cameos ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Those are just minions ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I’m sure we’ll see Clarence again someday.
(i apologize if there are repeat comments, but it seems like my initial one didn’t crop up. captcha strikes again)
They’re back at it again, and up to their usual schemes… Ecta looks so smug in the last panel, I love her expression.
For some reason, the blacksmith sort of reminds me of Cyril – maybe it’s that hair? Maybe barbers in Idenau give a “unkempt NPC” option? Are there even barbers in Idenau?
…Speaking of which, is Skaerva’s hair colour part of the curse, or is it genetic? Did the Skaervas prior to the First have blue hair?
It’s been a while since I mentioned fanart, and I apologize for taking this long! I just needed to tweak some things, ahaha
Again, since the comments appear to be doing an odd thing and not allowing comments to display, I thought the links might be the issue and put brackets around the dots. Remove them to access the links, I think. [Courtney here: spam filter won’t allow links through; I edited to make them clickable]
First of all, doodles of Skaerva and Lorelei, with a completely random AU i.imgur.com/kODp6o5.jpg (Skaerva Valskaerva?)
And next, a portrait: i.imgur.com/LwtU4P0.jpg
i.imgur.com/gUSvab4.jpg (sans moth)
(It’s pretty obvious who one of my favourite characters is, isn’t it )
Anyways, I look forward to the colours!
WHEW it posted i think
Hey there! Yeah, unfortunately we get a lot of spambots trying to direct people to sketchy websites, so if anyone posts a link, it gets stuck and I have to moderate it. Sometimes the system lets me know it thinks this is a real person, but other times the comment just goes into spam and I never realize it until much later. If you want to post a link, it’s best to do something like you just did. But I can edit now so everyone can easily click the links!
AND AHH I love the art so much!!! Thanks a ton, and don’t worry about the wait!! I’m always happy to see the Second… I feel that if this wasn’t my comic, and I didn’t love everyone with a mother’s passion, he’d probably be my favorite I love your style, and the painterly quality on the portrait is really nice. I’ll put these up on the fan art page – do you have a deviantArt or tumblr or anything you want me to link to?
PHEW, anyway – onto hair stuff, haha. I just like giving people long hair. For the blacksmith in particular, I wanted to contrast a burly, medieval-looking smith with his businesslike dress and demeanor. Hence the long hair.
And yes, the hair color is just a side-effect of the curse. The family hasn’t always had gorgeous silver-blue hair. You might even think it’s a nice little consolation the gods gave them, since I think it looks rather nice
Oooooh gods, I can imagine that’s not fun. It’s good to have that sort of a system in place, though, in case anyone tries posting skeevy/questionable offsite links. But alright, I will keep that for future reference!
Ahhhh I’m glad you like it! And it’s no problem at all, I look forward to drawing some more characters, they all have such nice designs and it’s a pleasure drawing them.
And yeah, as an observer looking in, the Second’s really interesting for what little page time he got, you can clearly see he was a kind person, but… placed in unfortunate circumstances. I also saw hints of a tragic backstory, and those are always interesting to unravel
Anyways! I have a tumblr and/or twitter, if you have a preference for one or another?
And that’s true, a lot of the cast seems to have long hair… It’s fun to draw for me And it’s also good contrast/subversion with character design…
Anyways! That’s also true, and I remember you saying the gods didn’t always give completely negative curses, and this is an example of that… speaking of which, is there such a thing as the gods giving someone or something a curse and then it backfired? I remember the Lurkins were described as one if I’m not mistaken.
But whew, I’m sorry for all the questions ^ ^; Thank you again!
You can give me your tumblr AND twitter; there’s no harm in linking both! Although I’d PERSONALLY prefer the twitter since I actually use that these days ^_^
People/families/entire races who are cursed generally come away more magically talented. There are a lot of theological theories about that… some people think it’s a blessing to make up for the curse (because the gods are ultimately kind), while others even think it’s a “test” to see if, after being punished, the accursed will start to use their power for good (which… has rarely happened). Finally there’s the idea, very much borne out, that the gods never again intervene to help a person once cursed (answering prayers, etc.), so the magic might be a way of saying “you’re on your own now, so you can at least have this.” All of this is to say, there are people who believe the gods always know what they’re doing and a curse can’t POSSIBLY backfire, and it’s unfair that people who are cursed tend to become more powerful, so there must be some divine plan involved. But most people do just believe the magic is a consequence of being touched by the divine, even in a negative way, and is unavoidable whether the gods intended it or not.
The Lurkins view their curse as having backfired, since the gods probably intended those people to be awed at their power and come grovelling back to worship them, but instead they were just like “holy crap have you seen how cool our ears are now?” and felt they had a totally new never-go-to-church excuse card. It happened so long ago that they don’t even really think of it as a curse anymore.
I suppose there’s always a chance for curses to “backfire” since the gods aren’t into direct physical/spiritual torture or repeated punishments; curses tend to be more of a shaming thing (“look at these people, they’ve done wrong in Our eyes”), and very often accompanied by a sort of purgatory state where you can’t find peace after death and have to remain a ghost or zombie. But even then, it’s all what you make of it. The Third accepted his fate very gracefully and made the best of it. The Second was not able to hold up so well.
Alright! Well, the content on my twitter’s mostly my own doodles and original characters, but here it is: twitter[.]com/koumorisak, and my Tumblr is in the side bar.
Ooooh! That’s all really interesting, so it’s sort of that the gods have good intentions and smite supposed “evildoers”, but it has a chance of backfiring, but they don’t care? And it involves the cursed parties trying to figure out their cursed state.
…Speaking of which, will what the gods do for serious offenses ever be explored in the comic, or outside of it? And theoretically, would there be individuals powerful enough to curse people as it were beside the gods? There’s a lot that could be explored with the mechanics of curse-dom, heh.
OH, and the other thing I wanted to ask is if you have plans to continue the Encyclopedia of Idenau entries after the main arc continues?
….that should be koumorisaki, as opposed to koumorisak ^ ^;
Awesome! I’ll put your stuff up in the gallery tomorrow.
I don’t think any mortal would be strong enough to do a permanent curse, especially an inter-generational one. It’s something that alters your very genetic makeup in a lot of cases. And what the First did was a pretty serious offense. All I can say is that the gods are mysterious… and we have a lot of ground left to explore
Speaking of that, there will definitely be more encyclopedia entries! I know there are some specific things Victor wanted to get into eventually. I’ll probably do an article on Medifest (the holiday celebrating relationships) very soon, since that’s coming up and all I’d even like to go back and illustrate the extant ones better sometime, since we used to put them up in periods when I needed a break from drawing in the first place.
Thank you so much! And I saw you follow me on Twitter, hello :3
Ooooh, sounds interesting! And true, there’s a lot of room for worldbuilding and exploration of the aspects of the gods and residents of Idenau. And mysterious indeed, though perhaps Skaerva will find a way…
That sounds really interesting, and an accompanying entry also sounds nice. I can’t wait to see what details are revealed!
Ecta knows how this gift-giving nonsense works, everyone else shows up with ores and shit and then he wonders when the ore ends, then you hand him a dude.
Ecta is more perceptive than people give her credit for. She knows just when someone needs a dude dropped onto them.
Ecta looks so proud of herself.
She deserves to be!
It’s dangerous to craft a sword alone, so take this!
-Obtained Black Smith-
HIS NAME IS BLAKE SMITH
Apparently
Is it me, or is Skarva the most physically active of the group? Most magic casters seemed to be portrayed opposite of physically active, leaving that kind of stuff to the knights and tanks. Yet here is Skarva carrying a big blacksmith, prefers to travel on foot, and takes up fencing.
On that note… Dose having a sword make him a Battle Mage, or a Spell Sword?
He does love walking, but he’s not that strong. Have you seen his stick-limbs? I know we’ve had a gag where Derk jumped into his arms before, but he can’t actually support him for that long. Nor this guy.
He is pretty active though! I like that about him. I kind of see it all being connected to how utterly non-lazy he is; he’ll do whatever physical activity is required of him without complaining about it because his mind is so thoroughly on his goals. He’s always ready to stay up into the wee hours and still jump out of bed the next morning to start on his next scheme. He would just keep going until he collapses (like he did when he was driving home from the pirate adventure). Derk and Lorelei both think he should slow down. Ecta’s like that too, of course, but she doesn’t even NEED to sleep…
I suppose it makes him a Tactician! http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Tactician_(class) I -did- dress him up as Robin a couple Havocfests ago…
Oh man! Haven’t checked up on this site in a while! My reward is a couple consecutive pages! Just like the good ol’ days before I got caught up…
Come back in a few months and we might even be done with this arc and back to the main story! < And that guy. Among others.
I like to comment on every page of yours because I love your comic and want to support every page. But I don’t always know what to say because words are not my Forte. So here’s a repetitive comment: “I love this page. It made me laugh.”
Chynna, you are a wonderful person.
It is like Oprah giving out cars, but in reverse and with raw materials. Then Ecta has to come in and break the flow by giving a dude. For shame.
Basically, Skärva is a magnet, and then he became a dude magnet.
