Yeah, you all saw this coming

Happy page 200! Celebrate by clicking the new “social” tab up top and liking us on Facebook, or get sucked into the addicting world of TV Tropes and maybe add a few to our page!
I’d write something sappy and celebratory, but I’m tired. Theatre makes life… complicated sometimes. But I wouldn’t have it any other way…
Happy 200th strip!
*tosses confetti*
And as usual, I am in awe and amusement at your expressions. Every. Single. One.
Lol I find it amusing that Cyrill doesn’t seen to have taken the mugging personally, or is even upset about it. I guess he’s used to it by now, hehe.
Why thank you! Expressions are one thing I can do, and my lineart is getting better. Now by the time I get to page 300 I hope to have some really cool backgrounds…
I love panel 7. Floyd, Ecta, and Davis are all like, “…Well, this is the end…”
You know it’s bad when Ecta’s too worried to even gloat at Davis for this misfortune…
here to 200 more pages!

this calls for a party!
Oh- there will be MUCH more than that!
You have no idea how happy that comment makes me!
Also ‘was ESFisho’… I knew it!
You don’t even know how deep things are gonna get, man.
At least the comic is one constant I can look forward to for years to come, in my future of not knowing what the heck I want to do with myself.
Also, you have no idea how happy YOUR comment makes ME
Happy 200th!!~ ♥
And here’s to many more!
…I had a bad feeling this was going to happen. DX Maybe Skaerva can still beat him to a pulp?
Many more, and many more after that
Cheers!
a lil smudge on le bard’s face?
educrip awkwardly
i guess captcha is awkwardly teaching gangmembers?
It’s a bruise
When Davis said Cyril was a pushover, he wasn’t being figurative…
HA! Nice.
Orange rage incoming in 3… 2…
I wonder if Castle Skärva has an alarm for when the orange fury goes off…
200! Whoo! *party*
I can’t afford to party right now, I have work in the morning – OH WELL
Congrats for you! Too bad for the A team having to suffer the bard’s company… but on the whole, CONGRATS!
I would tell them to cheer up, it’s Comic 200, but I don’t think they’d care.
Oh yes! I was waiting for this to happen!
Of course. We couldn’t just bring Cyril back only to drop him so soon. Because I’m a masochist and just love drawing accordions…
Speaking of TV Tropes, I think you’ve got yourself a Five Man Band, if Cyril stays.
The Leader: Ecta
The Lancer: Davis
The Big Guy: Floyd
The Chick: Slice
The “Smart” Guy: Cyril
I checked it out, and it said “The Chick” must really be a girl, really, for real.
I know Slice is sensitive, but…
As for the rest of them, it mostly fits but some of them are kind of a stretch. Well, we’ll see what happens to Cyril, before you get too excited!
It looks like that was added recently. Regardless, there’s a good number of entries that have a male Chick. Besides, it’s Five Man Band, not Five Token Band (which is actually a thing).
That’s weird, I’ve NEVER heard that The Chick needs to be a girl before. That seems pretty sexist to me, next they’ll be saying that The Big Guy HAS to be a guy, and that Golems can’t be feminine.
I think Quirky Mini Boss Squad, or Punch Clock Villain suits them better.
And Slice can be the Non Action Guy!
Lol I’m on board with Quirky Mini Boss Squad, I’ve always loved that trope.
For the most part Slice can be Non Action, but I have a feeling if we ever see him SERIOUS about attacking, he’s going to be pretty Action.
Oh, my.
I expect Cyril to just spontaneously combust from the amount of orange the moment Skarva sees him.
Ohhh, yeah. I meant to say happy 200th comic, but I got sidetracked
Thanks!
Happy 200 you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EXCLAMATION MARK COMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
X_X
You can never have too many exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed!!!!-
Holy crap why does this page have so many comments? Oh it’s the one where people were arguing about Zelda.
congratulations on 200!
Yaaay!
Yay, 200! Congratulations!
Thanks! I’ll just pretend today’s comic is late on purpose so we can bask in the glory of this moment for a little longer.
Happy 200th!
Love that Slice is still trying in the background of panel 7. He’s trying SO HARD. It’s adorable.
Captcha: Distances wineedo. Man, even CAPTCHA doesn’t want to hang out with Cyril. I sympathize.
Captcha is a jerk sometimes!
I love how Cyril doesn’t seem to care AT ALL that the stole his precious family relic.
rofl I know right? XD Guess he’s just happy to have ANY kind of companionship.
Favorite videogame? I don’t think I can pick just one…
Probably Pokemon, Professor Layton, Persona 4, anything from the Disgaea series, or Okami. ^^
I’ve heard good things about the Persona games, but never played one myself. My best friend, who goes by The Hanged Man on here, really likes them (…in fact, I think that’s where that name comes from?), and it’s the exact same thing with Professor Layton. Although I do love Phoenix Wright SO FREAKING MUCH and they are going to be meeting up soon!
Yep! Though I’ve only played Persona 4. I’ve gotten about halfway through Persona 3, but haven’t played it in a while.
AHHH, I FORGOT PHOENIX WRIGHT!!
I know, I totally can’t wait for the crosssover!
You should play Persona or Layton if you get the chance!
Lead by example, PJ! :< Why should we tell you about our favorite games if you don't tell us about yours? ;o
http://fav.me/d39irkq Well, I’ve been at work and I don’t have time to write love letters to my favorite games, so I’ll just leave this here ^_^
…but they’re all console games.
Admittedly, the four of those that I’ve played, (I’ve actually played seven, but three of them I’ve only just barely touched, so I won’t count them), are really good console games, but they’re all still console games, (though Psychonauts was ported to the PC). Is there no end to your injustice, woman!?
I have a hard time placing an “absolute” favorite, as I feel as though they’re all really good…but in different ways. I agree with two of your choices, though – DKC2 and Z:OoT – but I’m afraid I can’t get behind you on Banjo-Tooie. I always thought Banjo-Kazooie was way more enjoyable to play. With BT, I always felt as though they threw in complexity just for the sake of complexity – so much stinking backtracking throughout the entire game. I’ve never gotten more than the minimum amount of Jiggies in order to beat Gruntilda.
Others favorite include: Planescape: Torment, Zelda: Twilight Princess, S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, Age of Empires II: The Conquerors, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne for reasons too long to explain here!
Except Ace Attorney and Pokemon are handheld games! (And Chrono Trigger is on DS now… I mean, the DKCs were on GBA too, but I feel that much was lost in the transition. The drop in musical quality HURTS ME. But CT only gained, if anything.) I’m just now getting into PC gaming… unless you count Roller Coaster Tycoon… because I always had relatively crappy computers before.
Victor and I have the same disagreement about B-K vs. B-T. I’m in the minority, I know, but I didn’t mind the backtracking because I really enjoyed the worlds and wanted to spend time in them. I loved how interconnected everything was; essentially my favorite thing about the game was how Rare made a living island where everything fit together, instead of a castle with magical portals to varous areas. Plus the darker humor and SO MANY new characters, some of whom I just adore. AND a village full of Jinjos! They don’t call me Princess J for nothin’
Psh. Handhelds are even worse! I feel dirty just talking to you.
Five years or so ago, I pretty much completely migrated to playing just PC. Steam started gaining popularity and more third-party games started appearing on it, and I joined it…and that was virtually the end of console gaming for me. The only reason I’ve actually even play Skyward Sword is because a friend bought it for me against my wishes – I’ve never liked motion controls, and it looked like a huge departure from what I thought was the best…Twilight Princess. And oh look, I was right – right that I wouldn’t like it, and right that it was very much different.
…Unfortunately, I’ve run into the problem where I’m not playing hardly any new games at all. I still run through my old favorite games, (see the list I just gave you), but I just can’t really dredge up any interest for new games. Not sure if that’s because of where the industry and gaming in general is going, (very much south, in my opinion), or if I just have less interest in games nowadays…
You do have a point about BT: the worlds were extraordinarily more interesting than Banjo-Kazooie’s, and it was really neat how they connected to each other…at some point, I’d like to run through it on emulator, but I don’t think it’s currently functional. I can’t really bring myself to actually play anything on N64 anymore – the frames per second when playing games natively is abominable in nearly every single game – something I notice probably as a byproduct of PC gaming…ah well. Additionally, all the analogue sticks on my controllers are pretty much destroyed.
This is silly. I almost exclusively play PC games now, too, but I would never give up on consoles or handhelds. I also regularly go back to N64 and other old games, and the FPS never bothers me.
I am always surprised when people say that Twilight Princess was the best, because I honestly felt it was one of the weakest installments by far (also it rarely happens in the first place). Most of that was because TP took itself so seriously… while basically being a reiteration of everything OoT already was. After a game as beautiful and original as Wind Waker, I was devastated by the blandness of TP. It’s one of the reasons I haven’t played it since my first time in 2006, but have gone back to nearly every other Zelda game, often multiple times.
I’m not being serious about consoles and handhelds,
I have migrated from playing them – for a variety reasons, which I’ll explain soon – but anything else I have said or implied in regards to them was likely facetious.
In regards to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess: funny that you compliment Wind Waker, as that was my least favorite Zelda game, (least favorite is not strong enough – I hated a lot of things about it – a lot, but not everything – it’s also become a lot better in my eyes since Skyward Sword. The art style, in particular, has always been one of my sore points. The “everything” one goes to Skyward Sword, actually. In terms of creativity and innovation, you’re absolutely right: Twilight Princess has little in comparison to the others – it took most of itself from Ocarina of Time, while adding in a little of what I liked of Wind Waker – the special attacks, for example. However, Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games…and Twilight Princess felt like a natural sequel to it to me – offering enough new that it felt like its own game, yet still is very much reminiscent of Ocarina of Time, though its tone, as you said, was even more serious…and darker, both of which I was perfectly fine with, and in fact, enjoyed.
Sorry, but I’ve just never done well with all out silliness and/or cheesiness – it makes me uncomfortable and squirm inside. That was actually one of Wind Waker’s good traits, in fact – it had a balanced mix of both – it’s also why I like this comic! Skyward Sword, on the other hand, I felt suffered from full pants-on-head retarded mode – it felt ridiculous, over the top, and just plain all around bad all the way through. At least Wind Waker was respectable, if not likable.
Finally…in regards to why I generally stopped playing consoles…I am an extremely nitpicky person. I love being able to customize and mod my game to exactly how I like them…and a game not being able to be modded has almost always been something that tells me instantly not to buy it. Consequently, I am not interested in most console games. Additionally, I dislike almost every method of input beyond keyboard + mouse to some degree – I used to really be vitriolic about gamepads, but ever since the Wii…*shudder*
If you don’t like Wind Waker, ESPECIALLY if you don’t like it because of the graphics, then I can not take any of your opinions seriously. If you can let an art style that was so tastefully and beautifully executed cause you to hate a game, then you don’t have very good taste. Skyward Sword certainly had its problems, but the art style and the music were great. Some of the game design was also flat-out amazing, specifically the entire hook for Lanayru Desert. Problems like Fi and the motion controls are pretty widely accepted to be bad, but so many other aspects of that game were excellent that I have to let those go. It is definitely way, way above TP on my list, because I will always prefer for Nintendo to take chances and try new things with their franchises than for them to rehash old ideas because they know people will buy them anyways.
BUT that is all just my opinion, too.
All my opinions? Not just the ones regarding aesthetic style? Because I’d understand that, at least, given the gigantic variety of art styles I don’t like – which includes most cartoon styles, as well as every “anime” style I have seen, (at this point, I might as well just say all, but I most certainly haven’t seen anything even relatively close to all, so…). As I said before…I am really nitpicky, and if I can work around what I don’t like, (i.e. not playing games whose artstyles I dislike, regardless of anything else in that game), I will certainly attempt to.
No, actually – as I said, that was just one of the sore points for me – I didn’t like it, but it didn’t cause me to hate the game. In any event, I consider Skyward Sword’s even worse than Wind Waker’s – what an absolute butchering of what looked to be an attempt between WW’s and TP’s artstyles!
No, the real gosh darned problems with Wind Waker is the bloody sailing – speaking of which, also a complaint about Skyward Sword, except it’s flying – and Triforce Chart/Piece collecting. I was okay with Wind Waker the first time I played through it – at least, I didn’t think it was *bad*…but I tried replaying it a few years ago, and just barely managed to get myself through the game. It’s so…boring.
In a way, regarding innovation and trying new things, you have a point – Twilight Princess, by and large, was fairly bad in that department compared to both WW and SS. I won’t fault them for Wind Waker – and at least Wind Waker was generally fine on the first play. Skyward Sword, however, I absolutely will not – there’s not a single redeeming factor for me throughout the entire game – I disliked every aspect of the game, from the artstyle, to the general gameplay, to about every last character I met in the game. At least Wind Waker redeems itself with Tetra, the King of Red Lions, (but not Tingle), as well as generally good gameplay, sans sailing.
Motion controls…phaw.
I lose the ability to respect people’s opinions when they can somehow hate something so fully, while others clearly like the same thing. You say there’s not a single redeeming factor in Skyward Sword, but what about the music? Or the elements of game design in the desert and elsewhere? Did you really hate those things, or do you just hate the game entirely based on other aspects?
The point is, I don’t like when people actively hate on something the others like because I always feel like the haters think the others are stupid. You hate everything about Skyward Sword, and yet I found things that I liked in it; do you think I’m stupid, as a result? Or are there actually things to like? I feel like it has to be one or the other. You should try to be open minded about these things and look for aspects to like, because they obviously exist. And you should never let a game’s art style define your opinion on that game. A game’s art is not the only aspect to be judged, and hating all games with a cartoony style is just a closed-minded attitude. Hence, I can’t really respect your opinions, because I know they’re coming from an inherently biased place.
Woot, Zelda conversation, this is one of my favorite game series!
I personally love Twilight Princess better than any of the other games, if only because I liked the playstyle better, and few things matched the sheer feeling of bad-a like running around as a wolf and biting things. That and the Spinner and Ball and Chain were just fun. Oh, and Midna has so far been my favorite companion, by far. She was a lot of fun, and I love her voice. I like snarky side characters.
But I’m still of the opinion OOC is the best. I liked TP better, but OOC is THE classic game. Pioneered so much for Zelda.
Majora’s Mask is my least favorite, not so much because it was bad, but I just HAAATE working in time limits, and that was just one big time limit game. But the masks were fun. Again, the game was great and it would be up there in top favorites, but I am NOT a fan of stressful time limits. Oh, and Stone Tower is EVIL. EVIL I TELL YOU.
….But even so, NOTHING else in Zelda has ever beat the total epic feeling of completely smashing the stuffing out of every boss in the game with the Fierce Deity mask. That is THE ZELDA ITEM. So this game really did have the best and worst Zelda has had to offer to my interests.
I don’t much like Wind Waker either; its my second least favorite, and yeah the art is half of it. It wasn’t a bad art, it was beautifully rendered and artistically stylized. But it just wasn’t ZELDA to me. I felt like I was playing a whole other series. It . . . was like watching a cartoon I love, and getting excited for a new season, only for them to come back with a new art style. Not that the new style is BAD, but it isn’t the series to me. I guess that’s my problem with it. But I will still give that it is a fun and interesting style, and was handled so well graphically.
A lot of the rest of why I don’t like it is because I wasn’t all that great at the seamanship part of the game, and since so much of it was that, I was just sorta annoyed any time I had to leave an island. Good plot twist in the game though.
Haven’t played enough of Skyward Sword to comment; my TV broke. Am enjoying it so far though.
the heck is wrong with me? I mean OOT; Ocarina of TIME, not OOC. Augh this is what I get for posting here right after in my D&D forum.
An inherently biased position? Sure I am! Everyone is…you’re biased too, though in the opposite way! It’s not like I suddenly got up one morning and decided to dislike all of the aspects that make up Skyward Sword – much as you didn’t get up one morning and decide that you loved most of Wind Waker’s, (or whatever your equivalent to that is!). We just…are what we are. We also occasionally try and identify the reasons as to why we liked or didn’t like something…and I’m pretty sure that’s not because you or I expect to seriously change each other’s opinions, or think there’s something actually wrong with another person’s tastes – I mean, at least beyond a very limited personal perspective – …at least I didn’t. I already know what I like and what I appreciate – and I think you do, too – I just like to break down individual aspects of greater wholes to see what I liked and what I didn’t. Skyward Sword just happened to be a culmination of things I, on a whole, just pretty pretty much didn’t.
O.K., fine, you’ve got me on the music…and I probably don’t hate *every* aspect of the game…though I’m having hard to trying to think of another thing I did like…I still think Ocarina of Time’s soundtrack is the best, though, followed by Twilight Princess, then…Majora’s Mask, if we’re just considering the new tunes – critically, Majora’s Mask’s is far from the best, as it basically just lifted 2/3rds of itself from Ocarina of Time, but personal enjoyment over critical values, unless those values somehow also cut into how much I enjoyed it – then Skyward Sword, then Wind Waker. Wind Waker’s musical direction I didn’t like at all. *shrug*
Yes, I consider you just to be a big dummy because you like other things I don’t like! You’re just…so dumb!
If I thought someone was dumb based on the fact that they like things I don’t, I think, in some manner or another, I’d probably hate every person in the entire world, including every single person here, every one of my family members, etc…as I dislike the tastes of most foods, as well as nearly all examples of entertainment, including TV, games, movies, music, etc. – I absolutely cannot fathom why people watch the stuff they do on TV! It would, of course, be silly to hate someone because of their tastes, especially when mine are probably the most narrow, unforgiving, and strange that I know of, haha. Opinions are based around biases – concepts, ideas, character traits, and other things that we may not have known we liked beforehand, but we saw shown individually as a part of a greater whole. It’s like we actively decided whether or not to like something. If I could, I would please like to be able to enjoy more foods, as I’m currently subsiding on the same handful of different foods that I’ve always been subsiding on, year after year. That would be neat.
There could be something to like…and there is, of anything, of any medium, of property…but that doesn’t mean I do, and that doesn’t mean I have to say, “Oh, but you know, Fi was pretty awesome…if you just happened to like her,” when I’m trying to explain why I didn’t. That’d be silly to say, haha. What I really meant was that almost every aspect of the game I, personally, just happened to not like. Not because I think there’s a problem I can logically identify with the game and that’s why the game sucks, (and why you’re wrong and stupid to play it). That would be…ridiculously narrow minded of me, haha.
Mystrylshada: In regards to TP vs. OoT…I agree with you – OoT was the more creative, more classic, overall better game. Yet, like you, I simply enjoyed Twilight Princess more. I also enjoyed MM…but for the most part, it’s probably the weakest in the entire series. Kind of poor dungeon design, a pilfered soundtrack, re-use of most of Ocarina of Time’s assets, etc. Masks and characters were cool, however. I thought Fierce Deity was also pretty sweet, but the end boss was so easy – the first time I did the boss battle, I did it in regular form, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t get hit once…Fierce Deity was just overkill. I mean, there wasn’t really even a hook to the boss battle – just turn into Zora form and keep firing your dual boomerangs at him, (I can’t remember what they actually were…my memory says they were the fins off your arms, but somehow, that doesn’t seem right…), until you win. Oh well.
Oh also, the first time I played Majora’s Mask, when I finally got up to the town clocktower for the first time to get the Ocarina back, I had about 30 seconds left in the timer…so tense, haha.
Second paragraph: […]having a hard time trying[…]*
“It’s not like we actively[…]”
I should read my entire post before attempting to make corrections…
Oh, also, the FPS does actually bother me – ever since I started playing on PC, I can’t really stand FPS in games < 60 – it doesn't look good…and more importantly, control-wise, it doesn't feel good, either. At times, Banjo-Tooie's FPS gets horribly low – lower than twenty, but I wouldn't say lower than 15. If that happened to me on a computer game, that's the point where I would do one of two things: (a) lower the graphical settings, or, if that's not possible, (b) never play that game again until I have a better computer. I never noticed it before really trying to play computer games, so I would definitely think it's a byproduct of playing them…though it's not necessarily such a huge issue for everyone, as I'm sure you can probably testify.
I can’t pick a favorite! D8 I can’t pick between Okami or No More Heroes or Pokepark Wii or Skyward Sword or Deathsmiles or hrrrrrrrrrrrg *explodes*
Skyward Sword? Haha, I can’t believe people actually like that game, much less have it as one of their favorites…Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess were the highlights of that series for me…
Because of Groose
…and also watch it, Barty, you are going to start something
Groose, Zelda, and Fi were a large part of the reason why that game was so terri – I mean, why I didn’t like it. Especially Fi. I didn’t think there could be a more annoying helper than Navi, but gosh darn, Fi proved me so incredibly wrong. Navi actually seems like a good helper in comparison, now, (though, honestly, I didn’t mind Navi when I first played Ocarina of Time – but that’s, I think, because I was so young and just didn’t care – Fi, on the other hand…). Not to mention my complete lack of aptitude for motion controls, (and by that, I really mean their nonfunctionality, but I’m trying to pretend as if it was just me, okay, even though I know some other people had the same difficulties as I did – though more others didn’t, admittedly).
P.S. Is there actually a game called “hrrrrrrrrrrrg”?
I agree with you about Fi, and I never even found Navi annoying whatsoever. Fi was hardly EVER useful when it came to battle advice, and her popping up to alert us that Link’s health is low… as if the traditional ingratiating Zelda beeping wasn’t enough! Considering her significance, I really wish I could like her more.
Zelda was adorable though. And Groose. AMAZING. He reminds me of Gaston, except he actually had a chance to change and grow and become a loveable character. Link and Zelda always start out pure of heart and use that to defeat evil. It was really awesome to see someone start out as a jerkwad and learn to be better.
When the game just first started, I was playing while members of my family, (and the friend who gave it to me), watched. I felt…horribly embarrassed at just the intro sequence. Not only did everyone look absolutely ridiculous, but they also acted that way, too! I didn’t care about Groose starting out as a total jerk – Midna did too, although in a different way – but it was the way he and Zelda moved and talked, (and also generally just what they looked like)…it was hard for me to even get through just that – motion controls hadn’t even kicked in, yet! All I wanted to do was turn off my Wii and go hide in a dark corner or something, I felt so embarrassed. Cool that the game apparently didn’t treat itself so seriously, (ala TP/OoT), but goodness gracious…I had to continue playing in private after that, because I just couldn’t do it with other people watching. Not to mention me making a complete fool out of myself with the awful motion controls after I finally got going. That game, I believe, has permanently set me against motion controls – I will never buy any other game or game system that primarily relies on it.
Bart, I think you need to chill out XD If you’re that embarrassed by cartoony things… what are you doing here ;__; But really, I never would have guessed that someone I met on a Banjo-Kazooie forum would consider Skyward Sword THAT corny
Personally I didn’t like Twilight Princess as much as some other Zelda games. Don’t get me wrong, it was great, but… it was a little TOO dark, I guess? Too brown. I tend to like Zelda when it balances seriousness/bittersweetness with goofiness more, both in theme and in art style, like when Link turns into a pink bunny instead of a wolf. That just seemed too… stereotypical ugh like LINK IS SO EDGY, HE’S SUCH A LONE WOLF
…but who could NOT love Midna, seriously
But I do know the feeling of being embarrassed while playing games in front of family, like when I was playing Paper Mario TTYD and I had to bring out Bubble Boobs, I mean, Flurry. Or Banjo-Kazooie where some of the characters’ voices are literally just farting or burping (still love you Captain Blubber… and Loggo, who may or may not live in Mire Manor now)
See, the difference about this comic and, say, Skyward Sword…is that even though it’s often silly, is that it, firstly, maintains a balance between those silly parts and its more serious bits…and secondly, even when it’s being silly, it’s doing so in what I consider a respectable way. Even when it’s being silly, it’s still doing a lot of other things – purposeful dialogue, that attempts to develop characters or the plot or…etc. Skyward Sword…I didn’t feel like that. When Fi started dancing around in her absolutely ridiculous manner after I beat temple, I didn’t see the point. There was nothing beyond that silliness for me when she did that…and that’s what made me hate it when she did that, and one of the reasons I…intensely disliked her. It’s the same reason a lot of properties, in my opinion, go down the drain – other webcomics, TV shows…they stop being tasteful – meaningful – in the way they’re portraying themselves – whether that be their silliness, their funniness, or their seriousness – yet they repeatedly insist on attempting to try and be what they were before, regardless, while failing horribly. I know how to laugh…I just couldn’t do it for SS.
I don’t know if I’m going to have the time to take this debate overall any further, but XD I do appreciate your faith in us. We do try to make people smile while still retaining our characters’ integrity, and we’re going to keep doing that until our story is told (which, granted, will be quite a long time) and then we’ll stop rather than string them all along. Besides, when it comes to silliness/randomness for its own sake, I’ve always found that a lot less amusing than most people seem to…
I thought Skyward Sword had some REALLY goofy things about it (like beast-formed Demise with his wiggly toes? wtf), but I thought it was alright in the serious/sweet department too, especially concerning Link and Zelda’s friendship/love, Impa’s dedication, and Groose’s development, which I thought were done really well.
Typos and poor sentence structure all around in all these messages of mine, so forgive me for that! “[…]after I beat temple[…]”
Oh, also, I love Midna, etc. Midna was basically what gave me such great hope for the series after playing Wind Waker…alas, it was sadly not meant to be.
Also also, there were bits of TP that I felt weren’t good…or at least as good as Ocarina of Time. Dungeon design simply wasn’t as memorable, for example…I can pretty much remember every Ocarina of Time dungeon backwards, yet I have trouble recalling more than a few rooms and the [mini] boss of each dungeon…additionally, I felt as though the other kids taken from the village were rather shoehorned in, especially Ilia and Colin. I would not have minded the loss of their presences…but I guess it’s okay, given that that they’re the reason you set out to be the hero or whatever in the first place.
I seem to be the only person on the internet who found Fi endearing… It makes me sad. It’s not her fault the goddess gave her somewhat unhelpful programming! XD
Amen, I actually liked Navi and Fi. For anyone who doesn’t like Navi, just try finishing the game with no Z target. See:
I guess I just found all the things people hated her for to actually be really hilarious.
Haven’t played enough of Skyward Sword to hate Fi yet; so far she’s sort of fun. I like bookish characters who tend to ramble, although they’re even more amusing if there’s someone there who tells them to shut up (fun with group dynamics) so maybe she might grate on me later.
I have heard its hard to hold it against her by the end of the game though (biting lip on spoilers that I already had ruined for me).
…Midna’s still the best though.
Whoops messed up. I said See: and didn’t post the link about Navi.
So here it goes again:

Well, of course. Midna is snarky and fabulous.
Oh man. I kind of expected this to happen, but I had no idea it would happen this way. I am very very amused.
Cyril’s like a cockroach.
Um. Favorite video game? I’m not really a gamer…but I like Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Prof. Layton, Portal, and the Sims.
Aside from my earlier comments about Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess Zelda games (which are some of my favorites of all time), I also grew up on Atari and later Nintendo 64. So some of my all time classic favorites are: Pitfall 2, Q-Bert, …. uh, and a whole slew of others who’s names are suddenly failing me for the Atari. On the 64, I will forever hail Starfox, Wave Racer, Mario 64, and Mario Kart (by far THE best Mario Kart so far, if only because later versions keep messing up
multiplayer).
Nowadays, I’m rather addicted to a few MMORPGs, like DC Universe online and Perfect World.
Those kinda got kicked to the side though when I found Mass Effect. THIS IS NOW A NEW FAVORITE SERIES OF MINE. Haven’t played the third one yet, because its too expensive still and I hear its fantastic till the crayola ending, which is being regarded as one of the worst endings ever.
Congratulations on 200 pages! You are a really talented artist and I hope some day soon you make it big! Victor is really good at writing the plots too.
Not sure where the favorite games talk came from but I might as well throw in my two cents, Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age.
Ooo and Golden Sun: Dark Dawn! Still waiting for the sequel on that.
